What should I do if my tree gets struck by lightning?

A: Because the extent of internal damage cannot be assessed immediately, the affected tree should be monitored for potential hazards but extensive arboricultural treatments should be delayed for a year or more. Treatments to consider include restoration pruning, clean-up, water management, pest attack prevention, and bark repair, if applicable. The injury may not immediately cause structural damage, although it might serve as an "open door" for borers, decay, and future structural degradation.

For assistance with diagnosis, contact a local ISA Certified Arborist.

Don't Move Firewood!

Camping Season is fast approaching. Please remember to not transport firewood. Tree-killing insects and diseases can lurk in firewood. These insects and diseases can't move far on their own, but when people move firewood they can jump hundreds of miles. New infestations destroy our forests, property values, and cost huge sums of money to control. MORE >>
